Thematic Workshop on social and environmental barriers in Latvia

The Latvian WinWind partners LEIF and IPE have organized the first Thematic Workshop in Latvia on 21 June.

The meeting utilized the results developed by the project so far, especially the Conceptual Framework for analyzing social acceptance barriers and drivers, adn focused on the social as well as environmental factors in particular.

Maija Bumbiere spoke about the study: "Living in the Alsung wind park landscape: the experiences of local people". The participants were introduced  in detail to the views of residents living near the Alsung wind park and its impact on their daily lives. Aigars Štāls shared experience of the  the city of Liepāja for gathering public opinion, planning of wind farms and setting land rent prices. He also shared his experience as a landowner when renting land for a wind park.

Roland Lebuss presented on bird nesting sites and migration routes that should be taken into account when planning the construction and operation of new wind farms, while Ojārs Balcers talked about the impact of wind farms on bats.

Guest speaker Piotr Nowakowski from the Polish National Energy Efficiency Agency spoke about the Polish experience in promoting energy community development. There are currently 33 active energy communities in Poland.
