Preliminary project results presented at the ECPR conference in Wroclaw

Researchers of the WinWind partner organisations CICERO and Freie Universität Berlin-FFU discussed on September 6, 2019 a paper at the General Conference of the European Consortium for Political research (ECPR), in Wroclaw. The panel, prepared by the Norwegian Center for International Climate Research- CICERO and FFU was entitled "Local Environmental Concerns vs Climate: Increasing Societal Polarisation in Energy Policy", was chaired by Rosaria Di Nucci (FFU).

Merethe Dotterud Leiren (CICERO, Norway) presented the results of an online survey conducted within the framework of the WinWind project. The title of the presentation was "Social Acceptance-Related Patterns of Wind Energy in Six European Countries".

The paper jointly written by CICERO and FUB-FFU identified differences and similarities in acceptance-related patterns of wind energy and tried to provide a systematic overview of key similarities and differences between social acceptance drivers and barriers in six European countries. Based on a literature review and a survey among stakeholders from specific regions in Germany, Italy, Latvia, Norway, Poland and Spain, the paper highlights six categories that contribute to shaping community acceptance of specific wind energy projects: (1) environmental, (2) economic, (3) societal, (4) process related and (5) contextual factors as well as (6) individual characteristics. The WinWind preliminary results were discussed with an audience of round 30 participants.
