Latvian National Desk kicked off by LEIF and IPE

The Latvian Environmental Investment Fund (LEIF) and the Institute of Physical Energetics (IPE) have organised the kick-off of the National Desk in Latvia. The WinWind project partners presented the project's planned tasks and results to be achieved and gave detailed insights into the future activities planned by the National Desk.

An overview of the use of wind energy in the project member states was provided, and the results of the Eurobarometer survey on the views of Latvians and citizens of other project countries on climate policy issues, such as attitudes towards the green economy, the reduction of fossil fuel use, and renewable energy resources.

Kristaps Stepanovs, Member of the Board of the Wind Energy Association, presented prospects for the use of wind power, providing in-depth insights into the use of wind energy in Latvia, as well as looking at issues such as the legal framework, installed and planned wind farms.At the end of the meeting, the participants discussed the question "In which areas are there obstacles for the development of land-based wind power in Latvia?"

This was the first of a series of meetings during the WinWind project that will be devoted to identifying problems in and solutions for the onshore energy sector. The purpose of the meetings is to build a structured, continuous and responsive stakeholder dialogue.
